This place feels good when you walk through the doors. Opening the doors at 7 a.m.
shows the spirit of the people who own, work, and hang out there. During the day, the bar is spotted with characters of all ages and backgrounds, crying in their beer and laughing at the winners they watch on satellite TV. Horse races are shown all day and because the track is across the street, it’s convenient to bet at Oaklawn and watch from the bar.

Lunch, which includes a special such as catfish dinner, or a pizza, or a burger, is served from 11 a.m. to 2. Specials are $5.50 and one Sunday a month, there is a Sunday Biker Brunch-a free brunch and then a bike ride for whoever shows up.

As owner of harleydavidsonbikers.com THANKS!!!! for helping a brother in need!

I will be there soon to visit and spend a buck with you fine people!

Around 5 p.m., the business men and women around town begin to arrive—from dirt haulers to millionaires. (Many of them bikers.) They share buckets of beer, and stories of success or loss for the day. Usually you’ll find half a dozen people standing outside looking at the unusual and/or beautiful bikes sparkling in the parking spaces.

Groups of bikers come and go in to the evening, enjoying making new friends and riding new routes in our extremely scenic town.

At 8 p.m. the music starts and the mood starts switching gears. Entertainment is a nightly event; whether it be an extremely talented, (or not), karaoke singer or an extremely talented, (or not), dancer on the dance floor. The music is as diverse as the customers from Hank to Frank. This is happening till 2 a.m. every night of your life. The crowd never ceases to amaze at the Long Shot Saloon, from bikers singing Sinatra karaoke, to an 80 year-old dancing to Brick House. And don’t let us forget the table of doctors eating rib eyes in the middle of it all.

The food is some of the finest and most fairly priced in Hot Springs. The drinks are strong and reasonable. The servers are friendly and fun-filled. The regulars are interesting and never meet a stranger.

Stop in and sign your name on the ceiling—it’s a trademark. You can’t miss the place, for there will be a bike, or 20 lined in front of the building at 2720 Central Avenue across from the Oaklawn Jockey Club. Make this a regular stop and you will become a Regular! It’s like home away from home and extremely biker friendly.

A story from the Longshot Saloon

I realize that Hot Springs, Arkansas is like most every other tourist town. They are there to take your money and give you as little in return as possible.

So we are there to meet with some 20 or 30 friends for the weekend. Hit a little biker bar one evening for some libations and winding down from a day on the road.

Sunday morning the wife wakes with the migraine from hell. Can barely stand up and almost impossible to open her eyes. No way she can ride her bike back home. I can’t ride two so the hunt begins.

Yep. It is Sunday. Everything is closed. Damn Pakistani motel owner says no extra time. Out by 11:00 AM or pay for another day. Kd5cqt is there in his Lincoln, so he goes back to Biloxi by way of Belton, TX to drop Patty off at home.

PolarBear and I spend four hours trying to find a place to store the Springer until I can get back for it.

An EMT in the motel restaurant tells me he is a “biker” and he works part time for a tow truck operator who is a “biker”. First guy calls the second guy and he will store it for $25.00 a day. I got your “biker”, buddy.

Finally we go to the bar. I walk up to the bar and tell the lady I have a problem. You know, wife sick, bike, 450 miles from home kind of a problem. Her answer is simple. “You don’t have a problem son.”

One phone call later to her son, who owns the place, and I give him the keys. He takes it to his house and locks it in the garage. “Call me when you are coming back,” he says.

A month goes by and off I go with a trailer (I’m sorry, but the weather ruled, wife still sick) and I get back to the bar. I walk in and the same lady is there. “Remember me? Sick wife, bike, etc?” “Well sure, son.” One phone call to her son later and I drive to the house and load the bike.

“What do I owe you?”

He says, “You’re kidding, right?”

Do y’all understand what I’m saying here? There is family and there are those around that define the word.

If you are ever in Hot Springs, stop by The Longshot Saloon across from Oaklawn Park. Tell Doug Prichard “Thanks” from another member of the family. Or check them out at Longshot Saloon and drop them an email telling him “Thanks” from another member of the family for just being there.

Tell him you heard it from me and we’re spreading the word.

And Darryl and Kenny too. A couple of stand up Bro's.

Longshot Saloon
By Paul Maddox of Arkansas Off Duty Magazine

Longshot Saloon just might be the best location in the city for a bar and restaurant combination. Sitting 158 feet away from the front door of Oaklawn Park definitely has it’s advantages. During the year, Longshot Saloon sees a lot of business.

However, when the live race meet begins (usually in late January) business starts BOOMING! Business stays BOOMING until Derby Day.

When I say BOOMING, I mean business exceeds 800 customers per day - on most race days. During the live race meet, you could visit the Longshot and catch a glimpse of famous jockeys and other personalities. I have spotted Jockeys John McKee, Carlos Gonzales and Luis Quinones (among others) trying to explain to race fans how one jockey beat the other in the 4th race that day. Pro Golpher John Daly and Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones have also been spotted relaxing at Longshot.

Seeing celebrities is merely a fringe benefit of visiting Longshot during the live race meet. All throughout the year Doug serves up some of the best food in the state. Late Fall is my favorite time to try what’s on the menu; or what’s not on the menu at this retaurant. Business tends to slow down throughout the food and drink industry in Hot Springs after Halloween. Doug gets bored easily during this period, which is good for his regular customers, because he goes in the kitchen and tries new recipies. He’s been known to invent some very interesting and delicious meals during these “experimental” episodes.

Two of the experiments that I remember vividly are Fried Ribs and his Super Potato. Fried Ribs are exactly that; but that potato. Man, you gotta try that thing. You will either need a friend to help eat it or a to go box afterwards. It’s enormous and delicious. It is a couple of baked potatoes cut into thick, round slices and covered with Au Jus, cheese, bacon, chives and sour cream.

Doug gives you so many choices for your dining experience it’s hard for you to get your own dinner order right the first time! He even caters!

Doug has taken his culinary show on the road throughout Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas and even out of state. He has an entire catering team as well as a fleet of catering vehicles and trailers to help serve his friends and customers in the field with the same quality meals that are found inside the Longshot Saloon.

Doug treats his friends and customers to a free appetizer buffet every Monday Night during Football Season. Finding “your game” is not a problem on game day because there are 10 televisions inside the building. However, one of the tv’s absolutely must remain tuned into TVG (the Thoroughbred Video Gaming channel). Racing is a 101 year tradition at Oaklawn and Longshot loves horse racing.

Food and and horse racing are great, but there is much more for the Longshot Saloon patron. Music types from several different generations can be found in the CD player. Everything from Stevie Wonder to the Eagles to Johnny Cash to Eminem is played randomly throughout the late afternoon until Chase, the DJ arrives around 7 PM.

Chase takes turns spinning CD’s and coaxing the crowd to sing karaoke. Chase will play music, let you sing karaoke or he will sing until the “wee hours”. The dance floor is the same as the bar; always open.

Speaking of bars, Longshot Saloon maintains two fully stocked bars manned by two fully qualified bartenders. Georgia is in charge of the liquid and entertainment aspects of Longshot while Doug oversees all else.

All of this action and relaxation takes place amid a sea of chrome and leather. Longshot Saloon is proud to be recognized throughout the south as a favorite hangout among the “Harley” or “biker” enthusiasts.

So, if you are in Hot Springs and you like food, drink, music, tv, sports, horse racing, karaoke, motorcycles or just hanging out you absolutely must visit the Longshot Saloon.

Thanks, Maddox
